Mary Lapukeni - Council Secretary

Mpongwe Town Council Secretary Mrs. Mary Lapukeni has implored the Integrity Committees to be proactive in identifying risk factors for corruption at the Local Authority in order to provide remedial measures.

In a speech read on her behalf by Director Planning Charles Simukonda during the official opening of a five-day joint orientation workshop for Mpongwe Council and Luanshya Municipal Council, Mrs. Lapukeni emphasized the need for the committees to spearhead the prevention of corruption at institutional level.

“You are the change agents that need to sensitize members of our institution on the impact corruption has on service delivery and development of the nation, I urge you to help government and Ant-Corruption Commission by identifying risk factors for corruption at institutional level so that remedial measures can be implemented,” stated the Council Secretary.

Mrs. Lapukeni called upon all members of the integrity committee to remain duty bound in promoting integrity at the institution and ensure that resources are utilized on the intended purposes.

The Council Secretary further urged the committees to sensitize members of their institutions on the negative impact that corruption has on society.

The Anti corruption commission is conducting a training workshop for integrity committees in order to equip members with the skills necessary to prevent corruption at institutional level.

The integrity committee is tasked with the responsibility of spearheading the prevention of corruption and related malpractices and maladministration at the workplace.

The Commission currently has two hundred and forty-five active integrity committee in various public institutions with two in the private sector.
